Ages 1-6  Youth Dance Program

Mommy & Me! (Ages 1-3)   In this gentle environment, mother and child can learn the magic of dance together and let each add their own spark of creativity. Improvisation with props and age-appropriate music is designed to build confidence in young ones while mommy gets in shape!

Creative Movement (Age 3-4) This fun class promotes coordination, large motor skills development, musical awareness, spatial awareness and listening skills. Rhythm sticks, shakers, tambourines, along with age-appropriate activities and special music help engage the students' attention and imagination. Toilet training is mandatory. Attire: Pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballets shoes.

Pre-Ballet I (Age 5)  Students combine pre-ballet and pre-tap in this one hour class designed to ease the transition to a forty-five minute ballet or tap class. Dress: Light Blue leotard, pink tights, pink full-sole, leather ballet shoes, and black patent tap shoes.

Pre-Ballet II (Age 6)  Students begin a more formal study of classical ballet through age-appropriate skill development, creative expression, music appreciation, and the relationship between music and dance. Dress: Light Blue leotard, pink tights, pink full-sole, leather ballet shoes, and black patent tap shoes.

Ages 7-18 Upper Level Dance Program

Ballet I (Ages 7 & 8) and  Ballet II (Ages 9 & 10) The beginner Ballet programs introduce young dancers to ballet technique and musicality, rhythmical awareness, and vocabulary that are the basis for expression in dance. Students learn appropriate dance class conduct, self-discipline and the ability to work with others. Our aim in these programs is to develop a joy in movement and basic dance technique. At the Ballet II level, two weekly ballet classes are essential to develop strength and flexibility. Dress: Navy blue leotard, pink tights, pink canvas or leather split-sole or leather full-sole ballet shoes.

Ballet III (Ages 10 & 11) A continuation of strengthening barre work with specific attention paid to proper skeletal alignment and muscle development to ensure a strong technique. Dress: Teal leotard, pink tights, pink canvas or leather split-sole.

Ballet IV (Age 12+) This level emphasizes the development of strength for more advanced allegro work (jumping). Teal leotard, pink tights, pink canvas or leather split-sole.

Pointe IV/V  A student's readiness for Pointe can only be determined by her instructor.  Many factors are considered.  Once a student has progressed in her ballet training enough to be ready for Pointe she will receive careful training, learning to move correctly through barre and center exercises. Beginning pointe students also learn about pointe shoe fitting, ribbons and shoe care. Dress: Same as Ballet III & IV & pink pointe shoes. Note: At an appropriate time, students beginning pointe will meet with their instructor for their first pointe shoe fitting.

Ballet V and VI These levels emphasize the development of strength for the more advanced dance vocabulary. The students’ greater attention span and concentration allows them to critically refine technique and explore choreography. Dress: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes.

Pointe V/VI For students at Ballet 5 level and above, this class offers more challenging pointe work. Advanced pointe students will also learn and analyze classical pointe variations from famous ballet repertoire. Dress: Same as Ballet V & VI & pink pointe shoes.

Tap I -V Tap lets students use their bodies as rhythm instruments. With an emphasis on footwork and sound, tap develops agility, musicality and stylized movement. Classes cover all the basic exercises, time steps and riffs that make tap so much fun. Dancers study basic through advanced tap technique, rhythm, coordination, and style. Dress: Black leotard, black jazz pants, black tap shoe.  Beginners need Capezio tapster shoe; Intermediate and Advanced students need Bloch lace-up or pull-on split-sole shoe.

Jazz/Hip Hop I - V Contemporary dance with emphasis on technique, rhythm and style. As students progress through the levels, more advanced combinations and different styles of jazz are introduced. Classes begin with a warm-up using isolations and stretching exercises, followed by dance combinations which incorporate turns, kicks, leaps, and jumps.  Dress: Black leotard, black jazz pants, black split sole jazz shoes.

Musical Theater Students learn the various styles of Broadway choreographers in fun and informal environment.  This class will surprise you with how aerobic it is! Dress: Black leotard, black jazz pants, black jazz shoes.

Modern Dance is a mix of Ballet and Jazz involving expression of inner emotions, and movements are done in a flowing or continuous pattern, often inspired by slower music. This expressive dance form requires dancers to have strong technical Jazz and Ballet training. Dress:  As designated by instructor.

Irish Kerry Is designed for ages 6 and above. Class focuses on basic Irish dance form in both hard and soft shoe.   Dress: Black leotard, black tights, black ballet shoes; higher levels need jig shoes.
